JCubed Lab

Careful tools for people who make things.

An independent software studio in the Netherlands. Bracketworks runs your tournament in the browser today. Woodworking Designs draws your next build, and Nonobonanza draws pictures out of numbers, both heading for phones.

A dining table in the Woodworking Designs 3D canvas. One leg is selected and tinted teal, with its size shown as 70 by 9.5 by 4.5 centimetres.

Woodworking Designs

Lay out parts in 3D, hang a door that actually swings, and walk into the timber yard with a list you can trust.

Available on the App Store and Google Play

Build it before you cut it

Add each board and panel, move them until they sit right, and let them snap flush against each other. Resize one and every measurement follows, so the sizes always match the picture.

A wall cabinet in the 3D canvas with every part named on it: door, top, back, bottom and both sides. The selected top reads 56.4 by 40 by 1.8 centimetres.

Hinges that move

Attach a hinge to an edge, set how far it opens, and swing the door. If the door bangs into the cabinet on screen, it will do the same in your workshop.

The same cabinet with its door, tinted teal, standing open on the red hinge line down the left edge of the cabinet.

Cut list and buy list

A list of every part at its finished size, and a shopping list of the boards to buy, in the sizes the shop actually sells, not sizes you have to work out yourself.

The app's cut diagram: two 360 centimetre lengths of 45 by 95 spruce, each drawn as a bar with the parts that come out of it (two long aprons and a leg on the first board, three legs on the second), the percentage used, and whether the offcut is worth keeping.

Bracketworks

Run a whole tournament from your browser. Draw the bracket, type in the scores, spread the matches across your courts, and print the schedule for the score table.

Free, with nothing to install
Open Bracketworks
The knockout stage of a tournament in Bracketworks: two semifinals feeding a final, each box carrying its kick-off time. Delftse Duikers past Leuven Lobsters 9 to 4 at 11:30, Gent Garnalen past Rotterdam Rays 7 to 6 at 11:55, and the final at 11 to 3, every team with its cap colour beside the score.
Four formats
Round robin, single and double elimination, or pools feeding a bracket, each laid out the way that format should look
Scores that carry forward
Enter a result and the next round fills in. Correct one and everything after it is worked out again
Courts, times, referees
No team is ever down for two matches at once, or refereeing while it plays
Paper and spreadsheets
CSV, a proper Excel workbook, and a schedule you can print or save as PDF

Nonobonanza

A nonogram for your phone. Fill in the squares the numbers describe and a picture turns up, and nobody tells you what it is until you have finished it.

Coming soon to iPhone and Android
See what it does
A twenty by twenty board part way through: the top nine rows are filled in and read as the ears and eyes of an animal, and every finished row has crossed off the squares that cannot be filled.
Fill or cross. A row whose numbers add up crosses off its own leftovers, so you never count it twice.
The reveal: a wolf's head in filled squares standing alone on the page with the word Wolf under it, and three ways on: Home, Play again, and Next.
Finish it and the clues clear out, the drawing slides over, and it finally gets its name.
The awards wall before anything has been earned: a locked chest drawn in filled squares with cobwebs in both top corners, under the words The chest is not budging. Fifty pictures and it opens. More awards after that, and more being made. Spiders included at no extra cost.
Every fifty drawings, a hand-made animation and a kind line under it. Neither is printed anywhere but in the app.
500 drawings
From six at five by five up to two hundred and three at twenty, and a daily that runs 344 days before it repeats
Proved solvable
Every one has exactly one solution and can be finished by logic alone. A test says so on both platforms before a build goes out
Nothing to buy past
No ads, no paid coins, no lives and no hint bundles. No account, no network calls, and a manifest that asks for zero permissions
Ink and Paper, both ways
A real light and dark pair, where the dark half is printed on dark stock rather than inverted
